Tips For Making Money In 2007

A new year and new opportunity to make money with your collectibles.

Every new year throws up new opportunity's to make money with collectibles. These opportunity's come along in the guise of anniversary's, for instant's in my last post i refereed to poster's and how 2007 will be the 30th anniversary of Punk Rock so you should be scouring auctions and boot sales and junk shop's for anything to do with Punk Rock any items to do with the Sex Pistol's ,The Clash, Iggy Pop just three of the biggest bands around at that time.

This year also see's the anniversary of two major city's one in America and one in England, the one in England is Liverpool's 800th anniversary of the city's founding charter.
The Town in America is Jamestown which will see the 400th anniversary of the landing at Jamestown.

So how do you cash in on these anniversary's, again local auctions, boot sale's charity shop's
look out for anything related to these place's especially old post cards, stamp's, old newspapers, photographs, if you can find two or more items put them together in a frame then put a add in the local paper or put them on Ebay.

One big anniversary in the film industry this year will be the 30th anniversary of Star Wars there is a huge market for Star Wars memorabilia i have already brought a couple of items on Ebay that the people selling did not realize what a big year this will be for Star Wars memorabilia.

StarWarsShop.com - More Product. More Exclusives.

Going back to Liverpool it is also the 50th anniversary of the world famous Cavern Club yes the same club where the Beatles started from.

These are just a few of the anniversary's that will be taking place in 2007 i hope i have given you a few ideas on how to cash in.

To all of you i wish you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Money For Nothing

Money For Nothing

Because you got them Free !

In 1972 a news paper gave away a black and white poster of the pop icon Marc Bolan, this has now turned into a collector's item worth over £100.
.
Marc had massive hits with Children Of The Revolution, and Telegram Sam, with his band T Rex. Sadly Marc died in 1977 in a car crash in South West London he was 29.

The iconic poster shows why you should never throw away your old pop poster's whether they are from concerts or given away free.
Other posters worth looking out for are Rolling Stones,David Bowie, The Who, Jimi Hendrix
Iggi Pop, Roxy Music, The Clash.

Not so long ago a promotional poster of The Who at the Marquee Club went for over £5000 at London auction house Christie's, poster's of The Rolling Stone's especial from the 60's fetch between £100 to £150 and remember these poster's cost nothing.

Roger Crimlis author of Cult Rock Posters says in an interview with the Sun newspaper “that at the moment Punk rock poster's sell for more than any others.
They are important at the moment because next year is the 30th anniversary of Punk rock”.
Just to prove a point a poster of Punk rockers The Sex Pistols form a concert in 1977 sold on ebay for £1500.

You can increase the value of you poster's by framing them and if you have the ticket stubs from the concert then put them together, and don't forget while you are searching for old poster's the modern poster's will fetch money later on.

BARBIE BIG BUCKS

Thats was the headline in the Sun newspaper.

A collection of some 4000 Barbie dolls sold at aution at Chrisite's of London for OVER £111,000.
Barbie in Midnight Red dating back to 1965 was sold £9000 alone 15 times its estimated selling price.

Two other dolls from 1965 Gala Abend Barbie and Barbie in Midnight pink both went for over £5000.
This recent auction goes to show the popularity of toys as valuble collector items.

Where should you start looking for this treasure? first look in your loft, garage if you have left home go round to your parents house and go through thier loft, i am sure through the years your old toys ended up in box up there some where.

When you have exhausted these places then your next step should be charity shops and boot sales, look out for local auctions and do not forget Ebay, people have made thousands by buying on and then reselling at auctions or even just relisting on Ebay knowing that the toy was worth a lot more then original advertised at.

It may seem obviouse but the better the condition the more money they will fetch, and if you have the original box then so much the better.
If you are new to collecting and what to know more then i would recomend you get a copy of Miller's Complete A-Z of Collectables

Organized alphabetically the book covers everything from amusement and slot machines to telephones, erotica, and bicycles. Feature boxes throughout highlight the most collectable items, or those with a fascinating provenance. There is also useful information on further reading and on where to look for these varied and intriguing collectables. There are nearly 60 categories in total, and over 1,000 items illustrated in colour.
